The idea behind the BUFC development squads is that it allows us to combine the best of Belnorth players with those from Belsouth and then to see if those players may benefit from playing in a higher level competition. For example Belnorth and Belsouth U14 players when combined could have better opportunities to develop if playing in the U15 competition.
Additionally it is planned that these squads would alternately train with the remaining Belnorth Players one night and the Belsouth players on another. This provides the option for the sharing of coaching ideas between the BUFC and Belnorth coaches.
If it proves a particular age group (girls or boys) would not be suited to a higher level of competition then that squad would train as a unit but players return to their respective Club team for training and weekend games.
Selection for BUDS is primarily based on an assessment to see if a player has the capacity to perform at the highest level in their age group or in an older age group. In addition to technical ability and potential we are assessing attitude and commitment. Whilst not a prerequisite, players with a proven (or potential) ability at the Division one level will be considered for selection, following consultation with Belnorth and Belsouth coaches and technical directors. The objective of BUDS is to try to offer players who want to compete at the highest level possible, the opportunity to do so. However, it is counterproductive for a player to be put in an environment where the demands on his or her commitment and skill levels are too high, with a risk of a loss of confidence and enjoyment.
All players involved with BUFC teams must be registered with Belnorth or Belsouth clubs to participate in the BUDS program. Belnorth registered players will have the opportunity to play up and down between the Belconnen and Belnorth teams depending on form, injury or in the interest of developing players.
If a BUDS team is not participating in a specific tournament or gala day (i.e. Kanga Cup), BUDS players have the opportunity to return to their respective Club teams if they choose to do so.
So in summary, if you wish to be considered for the BUDS program we would suggest attending both the BUFC and Belnorth sessions. If you are just interested in Belnorth then just attend our grading. If you do not attend the Belnorth sessions then your chances of being selected for a Division one or two team is remote. You will most likely be placed in Division three.
